Most people believe they are protected from retaliation or repercussions from what they say but that is not always the case. The first amendment mostly applies to government but it should be remembered that there are different laws pertaining to the workplace; if certain rules are stated and the punishment for those laws are clearly stated, then you are you are responsible for following those laws. If the company you work for breaks some sort of ethical rule, and you speak out about it, then you might have a case and might have to hire a lawyer to protect you from being fired,or compensated in the event you are fired or leave of your own accord.

Eric | https://whistleblowerjustice.net/whistleblower-info/choosing-the-right-whistleblower-lawyer/ Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05956709814025022192noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1685903630161577363.post-47007947338157132812014-07-30T13:06:44.415-04:002014-07-30T13:06:44.415-04:00Some questions have been raised recently about how...Some questions have been raised recently about how and when to pay vacation time. I was also reprimanded for taking two days of sick leave when I needed to.

Since returning from vacation, a lot of my time is being consumed by emails and conversations about sick and leave time. My office manager has made it a point to tell me I have taken more time off this year than she has in the past ten. (I am within my allotted sick time for the year and also have 90 hours of banked time from previous years at my disposal; however, I exceeded the vacation time allotted by 3 days with prior approval.) During these conversations, I was also told that I shouldn't take sick time when it is inconvenient to the boss and that I should "take one for the team" and come into work ill. I was also informed that while I was out sick, my boss had our receptionist call me (multiple times) to request that I come in and then sent her to my home to retrieve me. Thankfully, I was sleeping with my phone off and missed all of the disturbances.

When I asked to see the employee handbook or HR procedures and policies, I was told none existed any longer. I was also informed that the attorneys in our office determined the firm would fare better in any law suits that may arise if a handbook did not exist. Therefore, it was destroyed.

While these interactions are uncomfortable, I know I can endure them. However, I am very worried that I will lose my employment which I rely on to support my family. What courses of action do I have if I am terminated?LittleLisa74https://www.blogger.com/profile/10226717076984750098noreply@blogger.com
